The eTailQ is a validated measure of online retail service quality developed specifically for the e-commerce context. Wolfinbarger and Gilly (2003) developed the eTailQ through a multi-phase grounded approach — online focus groups, open-ended surveys with online shoppers, and large-sample quantitative validation — to identify the dimensions of quality that matter most to online retail customers. The four eTailQ dimensions reflect the core quality drivers in electronic retailing. Website Design captures the functionality, navigation ease, personalisation, and information quality of the e-retail website interface — the degree to which the site enables efficient, pleasurable, and effective shopping. Reliability/Fulfilment captures the accurate representation of products, timely delivery, and correct order fulfilment — whether the e-retailer delivers what it promises. Security/Privacy captures consumers' perceptions that their personal and financial information is safe and that privacy is respected. Customer Service captures the responsiveness and helpfulness of customer service personnel when problems or questions arise. Wolfinbarger and Gilly (2003) demonstrated that all four dimensions predict overall quality, satisfaction, and customer loyalty in online retailing, with Reliability/Fulfilment being the strongest predictor of customer loyalty and Satisfaction across all four quality areas. Website Design is the strongest driver of hedonic online shopping value, while Reliability/Fulfilment drives utilitarian value and repurchase intention. The eTailQ complements and predates Parasuraman, Zeithaml, and Malhotra's (2005) E-S-QUAL (ID 412 in this database) as an alternative online service quality instrument, with greater emphasis on website design and customer service.
