What it measures

The standard self-report measure of PTSD symptoms aligned to DSM-5 criteria. Assesses the frequency and severity of all 20 PTSD symptoms over the past month. Widely used in trauma research and clinical trials.

Likert (0–4, not at all to extremely); total 0–80

Usage notes & scoring

Freely available from the National Center for PTSD. Provisional PTSD suggested by total score >=31–33 (cut-off varies by population). Use alongside clinical interview for diagnosis. A Life Events Checklist (LEC-5) is typically administered first.
