A widely used self-report measure of anxiety symptom severity developed to discriminate anxiety from depression. Items assess somatic and cognitive anxiety symptoms over the past week. Its somatic emphasis makes it particularly sensitive to panic disorder and generalist anxiety. Developed alongside the BDI as complementary depression and anxiety measures.

Requires licence from Pearson. Score ranges: 0–9 minimal, 10–18 mild to moderate, 19–29 moderate to severe, 30–63 severe anxiety. Somatic focus makes it sensitive to panic disorder but less sensitive than GAD-7 for generalised worry. Use alongside GAD-7 for comprehensive anxiety coverage.
