Obsessive-Compulsive Inventory – Revised

What it measures

A brief, freely available measure of OCD symptom severity across six symptom domains. Each item asks how much distress the symptom caused in the past month. Total score >=21 has been proposed as a clinical cut-off.

Response format

Likert (0–4, not at all to extremely); total 0–72

Representative items

• I wash and clean excessively. (Washing)
• I have unpleasant thoughts come into my mind against my will. (Obsessing)
• I feel compelled to count while doing things. (Ordering)
• I check things more often than necessary. (Checking)
• I have difficulty throwing things away, so I accumulate things. (Hoarding)

Usage notes & scoring

Freely available from Edna Foa's lab. Cut-off >=21 suggests clinically significant OCD. Use alongside a diagnostic interview — not a standalone diagnostic tool.
