Cognitive Assessment Interview

What it measures

A brief clinician-administered interview assessing global cognitive functioning through combined patient and informant ratings. Part of the MATRICS initiative for cognitive assessment in schizophrenia. Sensitive to treatment-related cognitive change in clinical trials and useful as a functional cognitive outcome measure.

Clinician-rated (0–6 per item); total 0–60

• Speed of processing new information (informant-rated)
• Ability to plan ahead and organise activities (informant-rated)

Usage notes & scoring

Requires clinical training to administer. Higher scores = worse cognitive functioning. Used in schizophrenia and psychosis clinical trials as a co-primary cognitive outcome alongside the MCCB neuropsychological battery. Sensitive to functional cognitive change over 6–12 weeks.
