Positive Parenting Program – Child Behaviour Checklist

What it measures

The most widely used standardised parent-report measure of behavioural and emotional problems in children aged 6–18. Derives age- and gender-normed T-scores across eight empirically derived syndromes and three broad-band scales (Internalising, Externalising, Total Problems). Foundational to developmental psychopathology research.

Response format

Likert (0=not true, 1=somewhat or sometimes true, 2=very true or often true) for past 6 months; syndrome scale T-scores derived from normative data

Representative items

• Acts too young for his/her age. (Aggressive/Attention)
• Argues a lot. (Aggressive)
• Can't concentrate, can't pay attention for long. (Attention)
• Can't get his/her mind off certain thoughts. (Anxious/Thought)
• Feels or complains that no one loves him/her. (Anxious/Depressed)

Usage notes & scoring

Requires purchase from ASEBA. T-scores: 65–69 borderline clinical range, >=70 clinical range. Part of the ASEBA system including youth self-report (YSR) and teacher report (TRF) for multi-informant assessment. Essential for developmental and paediatric clinical research.
