The PDSQ is a validated measure of customer-perceived quality of physical distribution service — the logistics and order fulfilment processes through which goods are delivered from seller to buyer. Bienstock, Mentzer, and Bird (1997) developed the PDSQ to fill a gap between general service quality measures (SERVQUAL) and the specific quality dimensions most relevant to physical product delivery and logistics service. The three PDSQ dimensions reflect the core attributes of physical distribution performance as perceived by recipients. Timeliness captures the degree to which orders are delivered when promised and within the expected timeframe — whether the product arrives on schedule. Availability captures the degree to which the desired product is in stock and available for ordering in the quantities required — whether the customer can get what they want, when they want it, in the quantity needed. Condition captures the degree to which products arrive undamaged, complete, and accurately matching the order — whether the physical product arrives in perfect condition with no discrepancies. Bienstock et al. (1997) demonstrated that all three PDSQ dimensions independently predict overall distribution service quality satisfaction and that Timeliness and Condition are most strongly linked to customer repurchase intent. The PDSQ has been widely used in B2B logistics research, supply chain management, and e-commerce fulfilment research. It is particularly valuable for evaluating third-party logistics providers (3PLs) and delivery service quality in online retail contexts where physical fulfilment is a critical service quality dimension.
