This three-item scale captures how important a particular product category is to a consumer and how much they care about which version of it they buy. Eichinger, Schreier, and van Osselaer (2022) administered it to an age- and gender-representative panel of Austrian consumers in research on how products can make people feel grounded. The survey appears to have been run in German, and no source for the items was given, so they are best treated as the authors' own.
7-point Likert-type (1 = not true of me at all, 7 = very true of me)
Full scale items shown. Always cite the original source when using this scale in research.
Alpha was .84 (Study 1, n = 311) (Eichinger, Schreier, and van Osselaer 2022, web appendix, p. 6); validity was not discussed. Item 3 is reverse-scored. The blanks are filled with a generic name for the focal product category. The items were probably administered in German, so the English wording is a translation. See also Involvement with the Product Category (IDs 1581 and 90026) and Personal Involvement Inventory (ID 201).
