The scale captures how much a person is actively thinking about God, religion, and faith in the present moment, distinct from stable religious belief or identity.

Casidy et al. (2021) created this scale specifically for use as a manipulation check across several studies and two pilot tests. Reliability was very high where reported (α = .95–.97), though not every study reported it. A CFA conducted in Pilot Test 2 supported the scale's discriminant validity relative to stable religious belief and other constructs (AVE = .906).
