What it measures

Four single-word items assess the degree to which a person is experiencing momentary psychological and physical depletion in the present moment. The items cover burnout, frustration, overwork, and general weariness, forming a compact state measure of resource depletion. The scale was used as a 'depletion index' by Chae and Zhu (2014) to capture how environmental disorder taxes self-regulatory resources, producing a diminished capacity to exert self-control in subsequent tasks.
