What it measures

This scale measures work-life fulfilment (WLF), a broader and more positively-framed construct than conventional work-life balance, capturing the sense that one's work and personal life together add up to a meaningful, thriving existence. It is modelled as a reflective-reflective second-order construct built from six dimensions: confidence in one's ability to handle work challenges, practical balance between work and personal responsibilities, feeling recognised and rewarded at work, physical health supporting a fulfilled life, the strength of one's personal relationships, and the sense that one's work contributes to something larger than oneself. The scale was built through a four-study process combining a systematic literature review, focus groups, content validity indexing, exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, and predictive validity testing against burnout.
