What it measures

This scale measures the extent to which a donor believes their donation to a specific charity or cause could make a meaningful difference. Xu, Mehta, and Dahl (2022) used it in Study 4 of their research on how engaging in creative activities boosts subsequent donation behavior, drawing heavily on wording from an existing measure of perceived donation 'impact.'

Usage notes & scoring

The scale's alpha was .93 (Xu, Mehta, and Dahl 2022, Web Appendix, p. 10). Validity was not separately discussed. The explicit scale stem was not stated in the article; based on the Web Appendix description, participants likely responded to an opening phrase such as 'How optimistic are you that your donation could...' The items draw heavily on key words from an impact measure by Cryder, Loewenstein, and Scheines (2013), noted here as an inspiration source.
