What it measures

Eight items measure the amount of tangible (money, food, clothing) and intangible (time, emotional support, role modelling) resources a person recalls receiving from their family while growing up.

Usage notes & scoring

Developed by Rindfleisch, Burroughs, and Denton (1997) using family sociology literature. Alpha .90 (full scale); the two subscales (tangible vs. intangible) can also be used separately. A lower alpha (.69) was reported by Roberts et al. for a modified version—the full 8-item version is recommended.
