What it measures

A multiple-item Likert-type scale designed to measure the extent to which a person expresses a type of self-concept with an interdependent focus based on group memberships and affiliations.

• The groups I belong to are an important reflection of who I am.
• When I’m in a group, it often feels to me like that group is an important part of who I am.
• I usually feel a strong sense of pride when a group I belong to has an important accomplishment.
• I think one of the most important parts of who I am can be captured by looking at the groups I belong to and
• When I think of myself, I often think of groups I belong to as well.
• In general, groups I belong to are an important part of my self-image.
• If a person insults a group I belong to, I feel personally insulated myself.
• My sense of pride comes from knowing I belong to groups.
• When I join a group, I usually develop a strong sense of identification with that group.
