What it measures

The scale measures how prestigious, distinguished, and high-status an object is perceived to be, using four semantic-differential item pairs. Applicable to products as well as events or experiences more broadly, it was developed to test how psychological or spatial distance from a brand influences perceptions of the value it creates.

Usage notes & scoring

Source not stated by Chu, Chang, and Lee (2021), who used the scale across a study and two pretests. Reliability was strong (α = .88–.92). Exploratory factor analyses were conducted, providing some validity evidence. The authors note the items likely generalize beyond products to other things like events.
