Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire – Short Form

What it measures

Measures trait emotional intelligence — stable dispositions in the emotional domain including emotion identification, expression, regulation, social awareness, and impulsivity control. Trait EI is grounded in personality theory and is distinguished from ability EI (which uses performance tasks).

Response format

Likert (1–7, completely disagree to completely agree)

• Expressing my emotions with words is not a problem for me. (Emotionality)
• I would describe myself as a good negotiator. (Sociability)
• I tend to change my mind frequently. (R, Self-Control)
• On the whole, I'm pleased with my life. (Well-Being)
• I often find it difficult to see things from another person's point of view. (R, Sociability)

Usage notes & scoring

(R)=reverse-scored. Freely available for non-commercial research from the London Psychometric Laboratory. Global Trait EI score derived from mean of all 30 items. Four factor scores (Well-Being, Self-Control, Emotionality, Sociability) in the full TEIQue (153 items).
