Measures authenticity as a tri-dimensional personality construct. Authentic Living captures the degree to which a person behaves in accordance with their values and beliefs in daily life. Self-Alienation captures the extent to which a person feels disconnected from, and unable to understand, themselves — a sense of estrangement from one's own thoughts and feelings. Accepting External Influence captures the degree to which a person's behaviour is shaped by external pressures, the perceived expectations of others, and social conformity pressures rather than their own values. Authenticity is associated with higher wellbeing, lower depression and anxiety, stronger personal relationships, and greater resistance to persuasion inconsistent with one's values. In consumer research, authenticity as a trait moderates responses to authentic brand communications, greenwashing, and values-based marketing.
