This scale measures how strongly a person endorses the idea that people should act with friendliness, generosity, and community-mindedness. Malika, Maheswaran, and Jain (2022) used it to check whether a communal-norm manipulation registered as intended, across a pretest and a main study.

The pretest administration reached .80 (α = .86) while the main-study administration fell just short (α = .75; Malika, Maheswaran, and Jain 2022, p. 264; web appendix p. 12). The scale was used successfully as a manipulation check in both administrations, offering some preliminary support for its predictive validity, though its discriminant and convergent validity were not separately examined. Participants responded based on norms emphasized in a scenario they had read rather than their own personal attitudes; wording would need adjusting to measure personal endorsement instead.
