This scale measures a person's sense that life is boring and repetitive, together with a wish for new and exciting experiences. Liang, Huang, and Su (2023), who called the construct desire for novelty, used it in Study 2 with 458 U.K. Prolific participants in research on how parenting motivation reduces variety seeking. The items come from Pearson's (1970) work on novelty seeking.

Alpha was .87 in Study 2 (Liang, Huang, and Su 2023, p. 822); validity was not discussed. QC note: the items are taken from Pearson's (1970) established novelty-seeking measure, with reliability drawn from the focal paper's own administration, consistent with the seminal-instrument exception; Pearson (1970) is recorded as a full second reference.
