State Mental Energy Depletion

What it measures

Five items measure how mentally drained, unfocused, and low on willpower a person feels at the current moment. Sinha and Bagchi (2019) selected the items from Twenge, Muraven, and Tice's (2004) 25-item State Self-Control Capacity Scale and used them in two studies with undergraduate students.

5-point (1=very slightly or not at all, 5=very much)

• Right now, it would take a lot of effort for me to concentrate on something.
• I feel drained.
• I feel like my willpower is gone.
• My mind feels unfocused right now.
• My mental energy is running low.

Usage notes & scoring

Validity was not discussed. The companion scale from the same paper measuring hostile aggression is ID 904.
