What it measures

A three-item Likert-type scale designed to measure how unpleasant a person describes the smell of some stimulus to be.

• How unpleasant was the odor that you smelled? (Not unpleasant at all / Extremely unpleasant)
• How much did you dislike the odor that you smelled? (Not at all / Extremely)
• How dissatisfied were you with the odor that you smelled? (Not at all / Extremely)

Usage notes & scoring

Internal consistency (alpha = .89) was reported in the primary study. Formal validity assessment was not reported by the original authors. Items used as a manipulation check in Study 2 of Botti & McGill (2006), where participants evaluated ambient scents. Originally attributed to Bruner II (n.d.).
