Desire to Create by Hand

What it measures

Seven items measure how much a person wants to use their hands to make, build, assemble, and create things. Rudd, Hildebrand, and Vohs (2018) used the scale in Experiment 5 as well as Experiments B and C in the web appendix. The source of the scale was not stated.

• I desire to make things with my hands.
• I think making things with my hands would be fun and enjoyable.
• I would like to fix or build things.
• I think my hands would be capable of creating meaningful and beautiful things.
• I would like to assemble parts or construct things.
• I want to create something.
• I would like to draw, color, or trace something.

Usage notes & scoring

Companion scales from the same paper measure desire for autonomy (ID 967) and desire for competence (ID 968). Validity was not discussed.
